NHL 26 Baseline

Presentation and Replays

NHL 27

NHL 27 presentation changes will be detailed at reveal.

NHL 26 Baseline

NHL 26 added data-driven overlays, threat indicators, faceoff comparisons, and replays showing skating speed, shot angle, and puck trajectory.

NHL 27 Beginner Guide and Controls

Begin on Rookie difficulty with the On-Ice Trainer enabled. Hybrid controls make the first games easier because passing, wrist shots, slap shots, checking, and stick lifts use familiar face buttons, while the right stick remains available for puck handling and dekes.

1

Set Up a Beginner-Friendly Game

Open Settings, select Quick Settings, and choose I Am New To Sports Gaming. Set the difficulty to Rookie, use the Overhead or Zone camera, and set the On-Ice Trainer to Light or Full to create more reaction time and keep passing, shooting, and positioning prompts visible.

2

Learn Skating and Puck Control

In Free Skate, skate one full lap without constant Hustle, then repeat while protecting the puck with turns and short right-stick movements. On both PlayStation and Xbox, the left stick handles skating and hustle, the left trigger handles vision control, the left bumper is the deke modifier, and the right stick handles Skill Stick moves and dekes.

3

Practice Passing and Shooting

Complete ten regular passes, five saucer passes, ten wrist shots, and five slap shots, aiming for open ice and shooting after moving the goalie. The face buttons handle pass and saucer pass, the shoulder buttons handle wrist shot and slap shot inputs, and the right stick handles Skill Stick shots on both PlayStation and Xbox.

4

Defend Without Taking Penalties

Stay between the puck carrier and your net, switch defenders early, and use poke checks or stick lifts only when the puck is within reach. The shoulder buttons handle player switch, poke check, block shot, stick lift, and body check on both PlayStation and Xbox.

5

Win Basic Faceoffs

Watch the opponent's stick position before the puck drop, choose a forehand, backhand, or tie-up approach with the right stick, and make the draw as the referee releases the puck. Improve timing first, because matchup reads become more important after the basic motion is consistent.

6

Follow the First-Hour Practice Route

Spend 45 to 60 minutes on a structured route: Free Skate for skating, passing, wrist shots, and dekes; one Rookie Play Now Offline game with auto line changes; one game focused on defense and faceoffs; and one low-difficulty offline HUT Cup Chase match once the controls feel comfortable. Move up from Rookie only when you can complete short passes, create controlled zone entries, and defend without repeated tripping or high-sticking penalties.

Quick Tips

  • Start on Rookie difficulty with the On-Ice Trainer enabled.
  • Hybrid controls use face buttons for passing and shooting.
  • Skill Stick unlocks deeper puck handling and dekes.
  • Practice faceoff timing before moving to higher difficulty.

NHL 27 Player Ratings and Best Players

The ratings use the EA SPORTS NHL 26 official set as the current series baseline for NHL 27 roster tracking. Speed sets a skater's top pace, Deking controls how quickly moves are performed at speed, Passing affects pass accuracy and power, and Wrist Shot Accuracy controls placement on wrist shots.

NHL 27 Hockey Ultimate Team Guide

Start by strengthening the weakest position in your starter lineup instead of chasing one expensive star. NHL 27 Hockey Ultimate Team rewards balanced roster building through player combinations, Ability Points, salary-cap decisions, objectives, events, and several offline and online paths.

Build

Starter Team and Captain

HUT begins with a starter lineup of skaters and a goalie, followed by a Captain choice from featured current players, alumni, and future franchise faces.

  • Complete the opening objectives and use the starter roster immediately.
  • Choose a Captain who fills an important position or supports your preferred lineup identity.
  • Replace low-overall starters gradually with rewards earned from games and objectives.
Economy

Coins, Packs, and the Auction House

Games, objectives, challenges, missions, and events award HUT Coins, Packs, Items, and player rewards. The Auction House lets you target a specific player, position, attribute profile, or combination fit.

  • Spend Coins on clear roster needs such as goalie, first-line center, or top defense pair.
  • Compare listings before buying and sell unused Items to recover Coins.
  • Check the View Pack Probabilities screen before opening or purchasing a Pack.
Team Building

Player Combinations and Salary Cap

Combinations activate bonuses through links such as item type, nationality, or team. Bonuses can improve Ability Points, salary-cap flexibility, or player performance, while the cap prevents every lineup from simply stacking the highest-rated cards.

  • Build around several useful links instead of forcing every card into one theme.
  • Review speed, shooting, checking, and role fit rather than relying only on overall rating.
  • Keep enough cap room and depth to improve weak lines during the season.
Play

Offline Modes

Cup Chase provides an 18-game offline season with best-of-three playoff rounds and its own reward track. HUT Moments offers scenario challenges tied to hockey plays and events, while Unranked can be used for lower-pressure lineup testing.

  • Use Cup Chase to earn rewards at your own pace and contribute to the main HUT XP Path.
  • Choose a manageable AI difficulty, then raise it as your lineup and skills improve.
  • Use HUT Moments to practice specific situations and complete objective-based challenges.
Competitive

Ranked, Wildcard, and HUT Champions

Ranked tracks Skill Rating and Division progression, Wildcard changes roster rules each cycle, and HUT Champions is the weekly high-stakes competition for qualified players.

  • Use Ranked when your first two forward lines, top defense pair, and goalie are dependable.
  • Rebuild around each Wildcard cycle's salary cap or player requirements.
  • Enter HUT Champions only after your lineup and defensive habits are ready for stronger opponents.
Live Content

Seasons, Programs, and Chel Weeks

HUT Seasons add new cards, events, objectives, and rewards without removing the lineup you already built. Core programs include Captains, Heroes, Icons, and Rookies, while Chel Weeks deliver themed daily content across five days.

  • Check the XP Path and limited objectives before playing each session.
  • Plan Sets around attainable rewards instead of exchanging every collectible immediately.
  • Watch the official NHL news feed for season launches, event players, and reward-path changes.
Packs

Pack Probability Rules

Pack probabilities are shown by rating, player item, and item type inside the HUT Store. Each opening is an independent event, so opening more copies of the same Pack does not improve the odds on the next one.

  • Read the total item count and guaranteed item categories in the Pack description.
  • Treat displayed odds as per-Pack odds rather than cumulative progress.
  • Use guaranteed rewards, objectives, Sets, and Auction House targets for predictable upgrades.

NHL 27 Be A Pro, Franchise, and World of Chel

Be A Pro is built around one player's career, Franchise Mode gives you control of an NHL organization, and World of Chel centers on a custom skater and club competition. The latest full EA mode deep dives provide the foundation for the NHL 27 mode hub.

Players who want a story-driven career from prospect to NHL star.

Begin at the World Juniors, influence your draft position, earn an NHL roster spot, and progress through chapter-based challenges with performance and off-ice consequences.

Key Features

  • World Juniors opening chapter and NHL Draft presentation.
  • AHL assignments, call-ups, healthy scratches, and line promotions.
  • Form Score that reflects recent performance and affects opportunities.
  • Branching coach, GM, agent, and media conversations.
  • Energy management, attribute growth, X-Factor points, and skill-tree progression.
  • Career milestones including trophies, the Stanley Cup, and retirement.

First Steps

  1. 1Choose a position and archetype that matches how you naturally play.
  2. 2Prioritize chapter objectives and Form Score before chasing personal statistics.
  3. 3Balance training, recovery, and X-Factor development so energy holds up over long stretches.
